Going Global

Going global in its literal sense is described as a process by which people of the world are unified into a single society and function together. Well, if that is going global then the first thought that comes to me is that of a Kumbha Mela…why a kumbha Mela? From a common man’s point of view it seems to be something totally illogical. But if we see from a broader perspective, a Kumbha Mela is a Spiritual Expo. Over the centuries, thousands of sages who have meditated, done penance and been enlightened come to the "Kumbha Mela" and relieve themselves of the burden of the merits gained through Sadhana by bathing in the rivers. Water has the quality to absorb the energy that they radiate. The seekers, who come from all corners to be in the company of the seers and saints, gain that merit when they take a dip in the rivers.
Isn’t this a perfect example of Globalization!!!

As Guruji says, Globalization is not a new concept because long before we even thought of globalization, religion and spirituality has already done it.
In the modern context globalization should not be only of chips and coca cola but of wisdom.
Today the world is in the grip of terrorism, which is striking everywhere in the name of God and India has the solution for this. As the French Journalist and writer François Gautier aptly puts in one of his articles-
Beyond the poverty, beyond the immense problems that India has encountered since independence, there is a knowledge here that has been lost to the rest of the world, a knowledge so precious that it makes India unique. India holds the key to the world's future. For India is the only nation which still preserves in the darkness of Her Himalayan caves, on the luminous ghats of Benares, in the hearts of her countless yogis, or even in the minds of her ordinary folk, the key to the planetary evolution, its future and its hope.

It is required to reread history, and look at India not through the western prism, but with the ancient wisdom that she has bestowed upon us. Be it the Bhagwad Geeta, the Vedas, the Puranas, everything is perfect and flawless. These have come from the perfected being in a state of total bliss, love and contentment.

Alexander and Porus

Once we had a session in the Ashram with Swami Pragyapad and of the many interesting facts we learned, one was about the story of Alexander and Porus. .

We are taught in our school history books that Alexander when he invaded India in 326 BCE defeated Porus

The defeated Porus was brought in front of Alexander, when Alexander asked Porus as to how he would like to be treated, Porus responded that he would like to be treated as a king. Alexander pleased with the brave words of the valiant Porus gave back Porus his kingdom and Alexander returned homewards to Babylonia, leaving behind his General Selucus Nikator on friendly terms with Porus.

However, the truth is totally opposite. Around 200 years back, before the British rule, everybody knew that Alexander was defeated by Porus and not the other way round. Our history also states that this turnaround by Alexander was because his army was tired, home sick, depressed and wanted to go back home.

Well a victorius army cannot be depressed!!!

Did we learn a distorted history???

Lord Macaulay's address to the British Parliament

LORD MACAULAY’S ADDRESS TO THE BRITISH PARLIAMENT, 2 FEBRUARY, 1835
I have travelled across the length and breadth of India and I have not seen one person who is a beggar, who is a thief. Such wealth I have seen in this country, such high moral values, people of such calibre, that I do not think we would ever conquer this country, unless we break the very backbone of this nation, which is her spiritual and cultural heritage, and, therefore, I propose that we replace her old and ancient education system, her culture, for if the Indians think that all that is foreign and English is good and greater than their own, they will lose their self-esteem, their native culture and they will become what we want them, a truly dominated nation.

Republic day

I was just wondering how things have changed with time. Have celebrated so many republic days, from school to college to celebrations at Gayatrinagar (Nagpur, my home town). The innocent childhood days, with the national flag in hand, waving gracefully and glorifying "zenda uucha rahe hamara" with the sense of valor and a commitment to serve. Well, it's a realization that one can only serve, when he/she is happy. The success in life is measured by the smile we have on our face.

So, decide to be happy and celebrate life....

Loot all you can

If You Want To Come To Me -

Praising me is not enough. I am not satisfied by your praises, gratefulness and gratitude. Do not just keep me on the stage, on the altar, put flowers and say, Jai Gurudev!’ Keep me in your heart. When you are grateful, there is also a lot of gratitude and you feel like praising. But all this should be converted into your soul and make you blossom.

Once in a while when you have a problem, you come and say JaiGurudev. Don’t say it only some times, say it all the time, everyday and every minute. All these qualities you see in me are also in you.

Only when you keep me in your heart, does guru ship arise in you.Otherwise just doing pad puja (worshiping the feet), saluting and running away, nothing will be born in you. If you only want to garland flowers, then go to temples. There are many idols there. There is no need of a Guru then. Not only that, there are many people in the world, who love to sit and be garlanded. Go and garland them.

If you have come to me, then change. Change from inside.

There is no happiness in the world which you cannot get by being on the path of knowledge. Once you taste this nectar, everything else will be bitter. Once you begin to float in this, you will never experience a lack of anything in any way in your life.

Don’t keep me at a distance. By staying far away from me you have no benefit whatsoever. You are just wasting your time and mine too. Whatever I am, you are that too. Whatever you thought was impossible for you, I have come here to show you that it is possible.

This body, this prana, has only one mission. It has come for one reason - to introduce you all to your own self, to reveal the true self to you. Who are you? You are truth. You are shiva. You are beauty.

See, many people come here. Some come just to visit the place and say, “oh! nice.” some feel nice inside and say, “oh! nice energy!”they take few deep breaths and go back after one or two days in a good state of mind. Few others come and stay a little longer, while, while others just loot every thing. They take every thing. And that is good. Those are the kind of people I want. They must loot everything.

The shop is open. So loot all you can.

BRAHM NAAD

A proud moment for all of us; By Guruji's grace BRAHM NAAD has made it to the Guinness Book of world records !

The detailed news on the event is avaialble on

Amazing grace!

Amazing grace! how sweet the sound,
that saved a wretch like me!
I once was lost but now am found,
was blind but now I see.

'Twas grace that taught my heart to fear,
and grace my fears relieved;
how precious did that grace appear
the hour I first believed!

The Lord has promised good to me,
his word my hope secures;
he will my shield and portion be
as long as life endures.

Through many dangers, toils, and snares,
I have already come;
'tis grace hath brought me safe thus far,
and grace will lead me home.

Yea, when this flesh and heart shall fail,
And mortal life shall cease,
I shall possess, within the veil,
A life of joy and peace.

The world shall soon dissolve like snow,
The sun refuse to shine;
But God, who called me here below,
Shall be forever mine.

When we've been there ten thousand years,
bright shining as the sun,
we've no less days to sing God's praise
than when we'd first begun.

A Zen Master and a disciple !

A Zen Master had a disciple who was perpetually unhappy and dissatisfied. one day the disciple approached the Master and said, " Master, bless me too with your wisdom and help me find happiness."

The old Master instructed the unhappy young man to put a handful of salt in a glass of water and drink it. " How does it taste ?" the master asked.
"Awful", spat the young man. The master chuckled and then asked the young man to take another handful of salt and put it in the lake. The two walked in silence to the nearby lake and when the young man swirled his handful of salt into the lake, the master said, Now drink from the lake."
As the water dripped down the young man's chin the master asked,"How does it taste?"
"Good!" remarked the young man. Do you taste the salt?" asked the master.
"No",said the young man.
The Master sat beside this troubled young man, took his hands and said,"The pain of life is pure salt; no more, no less. The amount of pain in life remains the same, exactly the same. But the amount we taste the 'pain' depends on the container we put it into. So when you are in pain, the only thing you can do is to enlarge your sense of things. Stop being the glass. Become a Lake !"

Bansuri ki dhun per....Hollow and Empty

This is really intersting about the flute. It is said that the Gopis, who are crazy for Krishna are jealous about the flute....

Gift

It was the time with the Divine. We had a short and sweet Satsang with Guruji today evening in Pune. Thousands of people assembled on a very short notice. Guruji was flooded with gifts and sweets from the devotees. He picked up one gift packet and said. Life is a gift. You need to open the gift. The outer cover is glossy and colorful. But the sweets are inside. One who finds the sweets shares with others. You need to open, remove the cover for the sweets...madhuradhipate rakhilam madhuram....

Guruji in Nagar

The evening was enchanting. It has to be when Guruji is around and that too for a Mahasatsang. On the auspicious occasion of Makar Sankranti Guruji was in Ahmednagar on 14th Jan.
Guruji started with "tiLguL ghya, god god bola". Even if you don't eat sweet, you should speak sweet. And then He said "chinta karu naka" (do not worry). Give all your worries to Me. I want to see a smile on your face. If you don't see anyone smiling around, tell them to give away their worries to Guruji. Just know that I am with you. The Divine is with you.
If you feel that this life is not worth living, give it to Me. Live this life for me. But never think of committing suicide.
He said spirituality cannot be separate from our day to day activities. If business is devoid of spirituality, there will be corruption. Sadhana, Seva and Satsang are important. Sadhana for ourselves, Seva for the people and Satsang for the Divine.
He was talking how a youth should be. He should have four qualities -
Doordarshi
Samadarshi
Satyadarshi
Priyadarshi
Three things are important
Gan-singing
Gyan-knowledge
Dhyan-meditation
Then he asked who has pain in the body. The pain and ache is because of the chemicals that we in take through our food. The farmers should go for chemical free farming. He also led the "Hara" meditation. "Hara" means one who takes away the pain. Most of the people experienced healing after the meditation.

He again reiterated that we should go for Ayurvedic medicine and emphasized on taking Triphala. Who doesn't want a 'Nirogi Sharir' (disease free body), 'Tikshna Buddhi' (sharp intellect), 'Prafullit Mann' (blossomed mind) and 'Tript Atma' (contented soul)? The power of spirituality will give this.
Guruji said that when so many people meditate together, it's like a mahayagya. Today before sleeping you can make a wish.
Well, isn't this a wish fulfilling Guruji to be around You. A blessing incomparable!!!

Lesson in belongingness

It was August 2001. That was when i met Guruji for the first time. I was at the Bangalore Ashram for the Advance Course. I had heard and read so much about Him, that I was really really excited to see Him, to talk to Him. Guruji was not in the Ashram for the first 2 days. Those days Swami Pragyanandji (i was told, he is a guest from Rishikesh) would give discourses on the Shiv Maha Puran in the evening.

Guruji was at the Satsang on the 3rd day. It is really a lesson in respect to see how He greets and receives and garlands the Swamis and Rishis from other Ashrams. That evening during the satsang one devotee asked a question on 'tark and vitark' and Guruji very beautifully diverted the question to Swamiji saying
"eska uttar to swamiji hi denge"
(Swamiji will answer this question).
Swamiji threw a glance at all of us sitting there and replied
"yeh sab to aapke bhagat hai, aaphi se sunna chahate hai"
(all these are your devotees and they want to listen from you).
Guruji spontaneously replied,
"yeh sab mere hai aur mein to aapka hoon Swamiji".
(they are all mine and I belong to you Swamiji)

You should had been there to see the spark on Swamiji's face. Till then i had only heard about melting moments. This was the first time i experienced it. After that Swamiji went on and on with the knowledge session. That evening Swamiji talked about one couplet from a Sufi saint,

"meri hi kudrat, mere hi jalwe, teri tamanna kaun kare.
Eshq hi awwal, eshq hi aakhir, husna parasti kaun kare."
Meaning - When this creation is mine and all its play and display is also mine, then who will crave for you? When love is the beginning and love is the end, who will get entangled in forms now?
